Why Koster Dam Nature Resort?
Being the parents of five lively children, means we need a family-friendly place. Since we all enjoy fishing and nature, Koster Dam is the perfect fit.
Is it safe?
We once went to Koster Dam for an entire week, where we were almost the only campers. The only problems we ran into were monkeys stealing our chips and buns. They love to raid during the early mornings. Be sure to pack away whatever the monkeys could get their hands on. We’ve been to Koster Dam a lot and never had any problems.
Any shops nearby?
Inside the Resort, they have a small shop and sell all the essentials you might need. Surprisingly, they aren’t as expensive as other resorts. You should try their homemade biscuits. It’s delicious.
Is it child friendly?
It’s as child friendly as a dam can be. The pool wasn’t fenced when we visited so you need to check on your little ones. The pool is not close to the campsites but you know kids. Even though all my kids can swim, the smaller ones are not allowed to go to the shop or the pool without an older brother or sister. The pool is close to the shop and they might be tempted to go for a swim.
What can you do at Koster Dam Nature Resort?
Fishing mostly. They have wonderful green grass for a picnic near the pool. There’s a lapa for private functions and a lot of space if you like bicycle riding. If you own your own boat, you can enjoy a fun boat ride. Just mind the people fishing. Once a year they have an Eisbein-Fest with wonderful singers and lots to do.
What about bathrooms?
There’s quite a few bathrooms at Koster Dam. I never had to queue for a toilet or shower. Not even on busy days. The bathrooms are well maintained and there’s always toilet paper. People with limitations have their own bathroom. It’s wheelchair friendly and always clean.
Yes. Depending on where you choose to camp. You need to take your own extension cords from the main box to your camp area. In the bush, there’s no electricity because that part is for the extreme campers. I’m too spoiled and need my lights.
Are day visitors allowed?
Yes. If you want a nice spot you need to be there early. If you don’t go fishing you’ll be fine any time.
What we think about Koster Dam Nature Resort.
We caught a lot of fish, ranging from 900 g to 4,5 kg. I saw some photos of people who caught huge fish but apparently some idiots decided to net fish. It destroyed and harmed a lot of fish. Some big fish still come out but the norm is about what we caught. Some fish still had scars from the net.
We enjoyed every moment and can’t wait to go again. The kids entertained themselves with the other kids in the Resort. We only saw them when they needed fresh bait, became hungry or tired. Hubby and I had a blast. Wink. Wink.
